Oyo is a small, friendly town, 160 km northeast of Lagos and 395 km southwest of Abuja. It is a good place to stay if you want to visit nearby Ibadan, but you want to escape the busy city traffic. Oyo was founded in the 1830's.
In Oyo are the remains of the Alafin of Oyos's Palace, which burnt down in 1990. The Alafin is the incarnation of the Yoruba god Sango (God of Thunder and Lightning). Oyo is a good place to buy drums and wood carvings.
There are several hotels and restaurants in Oyo.
