Tarifa lies on the southern tip of the Spanish peninsula. Morocco can easily be spotted on the other side of the Gibraltar strait. It is nice to watch ships passing from the Atlantic ocean into the Mediterranean sea and vice versa. The town is a quiet backwater, but there are several interesting sites.

The Guzman castle is a 13th century castle not far from the port. The church of St. Mary was built on the site of an ancient mosque, as was the church of St. Matthew. The Puerta de Jerez is all that remains of the medieval walls that once surrounded the city.

Tarifa's beaches are popular with kite surfers, as its always windy there, because the Gibraltar straits create a sort of funnel effect. For the same reason the hills surrounding Tarifa are littered with countless wind turbines for electricity production.

There are many hotels, restaurants and bars in Tarifa. The town has road connections with most other places in Spain. Tarifa is 525 km southwest of Madrid.
