Vatu Vara Island
Vatu Vara is a volcanic, privately-owned island in the northwestern section of Fiji's Lau Archipelago. It is also known as Hat Island, for the shape of its highest point, which is 305 m (1,001 ft) high.
Most of Vatu Vara is covered in dense tropical jungle. The island is surrounded by a broad reef.
The traditional mythical guardian of Vatu Vara is a sea goddess called Sakulawe.
Vatu Vara is located 32 km (20 mi) west of Mago Island, 60 km (37 mi) southwest of Vanua Balavu and 235 km northeast of Suva.
