Gheos
White Cliffs
photo

White Cliffs is an underground opal-mining settlement. Several of the distinctive underground houses are open to the public. Some of the dwellings even boast underground swimming pools. If you are interested in searching for opals yourself, you can try your luck in the abandoned digs. Be careful though, as there are many unfenced shafts.

One of the oldest buildings in town is the primary school, which opened in 1895 and has operated continuously since then.

Some accommodation is available in White Cliffs. The town is in New South Wales, 845 km northwest of Sydney and 760 km northwest of Canberra.
