York (England)
photo

York was founded by the Romans, as Eboracum in the year 71. It has been the capital of northern England for almost 2,000 years. It was an important place under the Romans, Saxons and Vikings and it boasts a magnificent Gothic cathedral, medieval city walls and old streets.

There are many hotels, pubs and restaurants in York, but accommodation can be hard to find sometimes, as the city is always very full with tourists and pilgrims. York is at the confluence of the Ouse and Foss rivers, 285 km north of London.
