Zhejiang Province (浙江)
China's eastern province of Zhejiang is the country's richest region. The province's combination of hilly coastland and very good farmland earned it its wealth. The province got its name from the Qiantang River that runs through it. There are some 3,000 islands in Zhejiang.
Tea and silk from Zhejiang is highly popular throughout China.
Some of the most interesting places in Zhejiang include:
- Baoguo Temple is one of the oldest intact wooden structures in Southern China. It is 15 km (9.3 mi) north of Ningbo.
- Chun'an county is famous for its Lake of a Thousand Islands.
- Guoqing Temple was established in the Sui dynasty and is the founding location of Tiantai Buddhism.
- Hangzhou is an ancient city and China's premier tourist attraction for domestic holidays. It is the provincial capital of Zhejiang.
- Huzhou.
- The hill station of Moganshan is some 50 km northwest of Hangzhou.
- Putuo Shan is an interesting island off Zhejiang's northeastern coast, where you can see numerous temples and pagodas.
Mount Mogan is a scenic mountain, about a one-hour drive from Hangzhou. It features numerous pre-WWII villas built by expatriates. One of Chiang Kai-shek's Kuomintang compounds can also be seen there.Mount Putuo is one of the most important Buddhist mountains in China. Chinese Buddhists associate it with Guan Yin.- Mount Tiantai is important to Zen Buddhism.
- Qiandao Lake, or Lake of a Thousand Islands is located in Chun'an county.
- Qita Temple is in the ciy of Ningbo.
- The area around Shaoxing is home to Tomb of Yu the Great.
- Taizhou Museum
is in the city of Taizhou.- West Lake is a beautiful lake in Hangzhou.
- Wuzhen is a beautiful waterway town.
- Yandangshan features beautiful mountainous landscapes near Wenzhou.
- Zhejiang Museum of Natural History is located in Hangzhou.
