The 80 ha (198 ac) large Asa Wright Nature Center was originally a cocoa and coffee plantation, but in 1967 it was turned into a nature reserve. It is situated in a rainforest in Trinidad's Northern Range.

The area boasts numerous bird species, including blue-crowned motmots, chestnut woodpeckers, palm tanagers, channel-billed toucans, blue-headed parrots, various species of hummingbirds and numerous raptors. Dunston Cave is also part of the sanctuary. It is home to a breeding colony of the elusive nocturnal guacharo, or oilbird.

There is a lodge in the reserve that caters to birding tour groups. There are numerous hiking trails through the area. Asa Wright Nature Center is 25 km east of Port of Spain.
