Papua New Guinea's (PNG) Central Province consists of a narrow coastal strip along the country's southern coast and includes the southern part of the central mountain range. The beautiful Rouna Falls are northeast of Port Moresby. Varirata National Park, the oldest National Park in PNG, is not far from the falls. Numerous interesting walking trails run through the park and there are several places that provide excellent views over Port Moresby. The Brown River is north of the capital and a popular place for picnics, swimming and rafting.
One of the most popular walking trails in PNG is the Kokoda Trail, which links the northern coast with the southern one. The area along the trail saw some fierce fighting between the Japanese and the Allied forces during WWII.
Port Moresby is the best place to stay when visiting the Central Province.
