Chachoengsao

The provincial town of Chachoengsao is home to the Wat Sothon Wararam Worawihaan, which houses Phra Phuttha Sothon, one of the most sacred Buddha images in Thailand. According to legend the 198 cm high image is associated with a monk who supposedly predicted the exacr moment of his death, but its origins are unknown.

Chachoengsao is not often visited by foreign tourists, as it is not on any of Thailand's main road- or rail network, but it can easily be visited on a day trip from Bangkok and it is a nice place to experience provincial life in Thailand.

There are several hotels and restaurants in Chachoengsao. The town has bus and rail connections with Bangkok, but it is not on any of the main routes. Chachoengsao is in the countryside, 80 km east of Bangkok.
