Cobourg Peninsula

Cobourg is a remote peninsula that encompasses the Cobourg Marine Park and the Gurig National Park, which is owned by Aboriginals. Both parks boast beautiful coastlines and marvelous beaches and they are both enlisted in the UN register of Wetlands of International Importance.

On the peninsule you might encounter a number of introduced animals such as Balinese bateng cattle, buffalo and Indian sambar deer. The area is also an important habitat for a variety of water fowl.

The Cobourg Peninsula is in the north of Australia's Northern Territory, some 200 km northeast of Darwin and 3150 km northwest of Canberra. The only way to get there is by 4WD vehicle.
