Corbett was established in 1936, making it India's oldest national park. It is in a beautiful area around the Ramganga River in Northern Uttar Pradesh. Jim Corbett was a British hunter who used to kill tigers that had developed a linking for human flesh. Eventually he became fonder of shooting pictures rather than the actual animals. The best chance to see tigers is between April and June.
Apart from tigers there are chital, sambars, hog deer, barking deer, crocodile, gavial (a thin-snouted, fish-eating crocodile), jackals, langur monkey, leopards, rhesus macaque, wild elephant and numerous bird species. Especially around the Kalagarh Dam on the Ramganga River thousands of waterfowl can be seen. The town of Ramnagar is closest to the park.
