Costa Rica's Caribbean Coast

Large parts of Costa Rica's Caribbean coast are protected by national parks and wildlife refuges, such as Tortuguero National Park (the most important Caribbean breeding ground for green sea turtles) and Cahuita National Park, which has slowed development of the area. There are only few roads that access the country's Caribbean Coast and the number of urban area is also very limited. As a result the region is an excellent place to get away from it all and just relax.

Some of the most important towns in the region are Puerto Limón, Cahuita and Puerto Viejo de Talamanca.
