Cuenca is an enchanting medieval city that is surrounded by landscapes of incredible beauty. Some of the city's most remarkable sights include the 'Hanging Houses', the Gothic cathedral and the Museum of Abstract Art. In the region around Cuenca are several natural preserves, of which Ciudad Encantada (Enchanted City) is the most interesting. It features rocks that have been shaped in the most bizarre forms by natural erosion. Cuenca and its surroundings have been declared Patrimony of Humanity by UNESCO.
