Dodecanese Islands
The Dodecanese Islands are strategically situated along Turkey's western coast. They are much closer to Turkey than to the Greek mainland and have been subject to invasions and occupations for centuries. The Dodecanese have been conquered by the Egyptians, the Knights of St. John, the Turks and the Italians.
The most popular tourist destinations in the archipelago include Ródos (Rhodes), Kós, Sími (Symi) and Pátmos, while the islands of Lipsoí (Lipsi), Tílos, Agathonisi, Kastellorizo, Kárpathos and Kásos (Kassos) are less developed.
