Enkhuizen is a quiet town 50 km northeast of Amsterdam. It has a lovely little center with narrow winding streets leading to the harbor. There is an open air museum where many antique houses and their interiors have been move to from other locations in the country. This museum gives a very good impression of what life in Holland used to be like in the past.

A dyke has been built through the IJsselmeer (a huge inland sea that is nowadays a lake, as the entrance to the open sea was shut by a dam in the 1930's). It connects Enkhuizen with Lelystad in the center of the country.

Enkhuizen is 45 km northeast of Amsterdam and has good rail and road connections with the capital.
