Evansville is a rail and river shipping center in the Ohio River in the southwest of Indiana. The city is a commercial center for the surrounding farm region, which is rich in coal and oil. Machinery, plastics, primary metals, pharmaceuticals, food products and fabricated-metal items are the most important products that are manufactured in Evansville.

The city boasts a museum of arts and sciences, a zoo, a symphony orchestra and an aviary. It is home to the University of Evansville and the University of Southern Indiana. Not far from town is a Native American mound site. The site is a state memorial.

Accommodation and restaurants are available in town. Evansville is 240 km southwest from Indianapolis and 930 km southwest from Washington D.C.
