Gheos
Oahu's North Shore

Oahu's North Shore is the island's major region for surfing. During the winter, waves average 9 m (30 feet) and the giant swell attracts thousands of windsurf enthusiasts. The most popular surfing spots are Sunset Beach, the Banzai Pipeline and Waimea Bay. Most visitors arrive around Christmas and the area is busy with surfers until the swells die back, usually around February.

In December, three major surf competitions are held. They are known as the Triple Crown, one of the most prestigious surfing events on earth. During the winter, on weekends it can get very crowded along Oahu's North Shore, with locals from Honolulu driving there so participate in the surfing, or just watch the action. If you like more peace and quiet, you should arrive there on a weekday.

There are numerous hotels and restaurants along Oahu's North Shore. You can get there from Honolulu via Hwy 99 or the H-2.
