CeCe Rogers was born as Kenny Rogers in Cleveland, Ohio, USA. He had three brothers and sisters and was the son of a music teacher and was raised on a diet of gospel and soul. James Brown nicknamed him CeCe ('little C.C.', shortened to CeCe) as a teenage boy, after watching the young Rogers imitate Chubby Checker. Kenny later changed his name to CeCe Rogers to avoid confusion with the famous country/pop singer Kenny Rogers. CeCe studied music in Boston, where he was a classmate of Wynton Marsalis, who urged him to concentrate on his vocals. CeCe Rogers moved to New Jersey and formed "CeCe & Company". In New Jersey, he also worked with vocalist Sybil. After producer Marshall Jefferson saw his show, he recruited CeCe Rogers to sing the vocals on a song he'd written titled 'Someday'. The song did well enough for CeCe Rogers to land his own deal. His 1989 album was well received by dance audiences and in 1991 it was followed by 'Never give up'. After that CeCe Rogers became a legend in house music movement. He is respected throughout the world as one of the pioneers of house music. He has produced written and performed with Marshall Jefferson, David Morales, Frankie knuckles, George Morel, Sounds of Blackness, Luther Vandros, Janet Jackson, Kym Mazzelle, Jocelyn Brown, Byron Stingly, Aretha Franklin, Mas Collective, D'Angelo, Kenny Bobien and SuSu Bobien to name a few.
