Dezi Phillips' uncle was 1950's music-legend Jim Reed and his brother Will Phillips was a rap singer. Dezi released two 12 inch singles in his career, "Why you wanna" in 1989 and "Didn't do it" in 1991. Both tracks are included in his only album "Kickin' it", which was produced by Bernard Terry and Clarence Avant. Dezi promoted his album on a 12 show nationwide tour, which featured his brother in the program as well. Since the release of his seconds 12 inch single, Dezi has maintained a low profile.
