Enchantment was formed in 1967 at Pershing High School in Detroit, Michigan. The band members were Emmanuel Johnson, Joe Thomas, Dave Banks, Ed Clanton and Bobby Green. In 1969, they signed their first recording contract and in 1973 they met Michael Stokes, while performing at local nightclub "Stage One". Not long after, Michael Stokes became their producer, which resulted in several hit singles. Enchantment's soulful, smooth, romantic and melodious music influenced other artists, including After 7, Johnny Gill, Snoop Doggy Dogg and Warren G. Many of Enchantment's songs have either been recorded by other artists, or they have written songs for other artists.
