Evelyn King was born in The Bronx, New York. Her father sang with both The Orioles and The Harptones and later encouraged his daughter to becomae a professional singer after the family had moved to Philadelphia, when Evelyn was just 16 years old. There, she metp producer T. Life and he decided to produce the single "Shame". It was an immediate hit and Evelyn rekeased her first album not long after. Nowadays that album is a true classic and has stood the test of time in terms of timeless production. Following the disco days of the 1970's, a more sophisticated form of dance music emerged in the 1980's. Evelyn was once again at the forefront of this movement with songs like "Love come down", "Back to love", "I'm in love" and "Your personal touch". Her career's longevity was assured after she reached the adult soul market with "Kisses don't lie".
Not many artists have maintained the same level of success over the years as Evelyn 'Champagne' King. Her music is mature, yet contemporary and full of flavour. Musicians that have worked with Evelyn King are among the finest in America and include Paul Jackson Jnr (guitar), Jeff Lorber (keyboards), Larry Graham (bass), Jerry Hey and Mark Ohlsen (horns).
