The band of General Caine originated from Los Angeles, U.S.A. They had the same style of music as for example Captain Sky and Bootsy Collins. The band joined Tabu Records in 1982 and released the album "Girls". By then, there were only six permanent musicians left in the band, while the rest was made up of session artists. The permanent members included Maceo Parker and Fred Wesley. In 1983, General Caine released a second album on Tabu, entitled "Dangerous". That album featured several arrangement chores from Leon Ndugu Chancler.
