Timmy Gatling, Teddy Riley and Aaron Hall founded Guy in 1987. The band was part of the G.R. productions musical collective of Teddy Riley and Gene Griffin. In 1988 they released their self-titled debut album, which instantly became a big hit. It included tracks such as "Teddy's Jam" and "Groove Me". Timmy Gatling left the band already at an early stage because of creative differences. For the release of Guy's second album, Timmy was replaced by Aaron's brother Damion. During the same period, Teddy Riley had lost his brother, Brandon Mitchell in a shooting and he had also stopped working with Gene Griffin due to a contractual dispute. Despite of all that, Guy's second album was very successful. It was released in 1990 and included the hits "Do me Right" and "I wanna get with U". In 1991, the band broke up over "creative differences", but Teddy Riley, Aaron Hall and Damion Hall teamed up again to release a third Guy-album in 2000.
