Isaac Hayes was born on 20 August 1942 in Covington, Tennessee. His parents died when he was still an infant, so he was raised by his grandparents. He made his public debut singing in church at the age of five and later taught himself to play piano, organ and saxophone. Not many people have exerted greater influence over the music from the 1960 until the beginning of the 21st century than Isaac Hayes. He laid the groundwork for the Memphis soul sound when he worked with Stax-Volt Records. Under the official name Nene Katey Ocansey I, he also served as a member of the royal family of the African nation of Ghana, while he had simultaneous careers as an actor, composer and humanitarian.
Hayes had already started a successful solo career, even before the era of disco and rap. Hayes recorded countless albums between 1967 and 1981, but then it became quiet. In 1986, he returned with the album "U-Turn", which included the r&b top 10 hit single "Ike's rap". Two years later, he released "Love Attack", before again dropping out of music to focus on acting. In 1994, Hayes returned once again, first with "Wonderful" and the with two concurrent releases. The album "Branded" was vocal, while "Raw and refined" was instrumental.
