Shirley, Valorie and Brenda Jones had been backing singers for Diana Ross. They signed a deal with the Philadelphia International label. Kenny Gamble produced the debut album 'You gonna make me love somebody else. It made US top 40 in 1979. Unrightfully seen as a sort of second Emotions, the band nonetheless became dance favourites with tracks like 'On Target', '2 win U back', 'Could have been right', 'Keep it comin', 'Knockin', 'Won't let you take it back' and 'You can't have my love'. Their popularity slowly declined and forced a lenghtly sabbatical from 1984 to 1992. The album 'Coming back' appears to have been trio's last gasp. Shirley had already started a solo career and returned in 1994 with her third solo album 'With you', which included a remake of the Jones Girls' biggest hit: 'Nights over Egypt'. Valerie Jones died on Sunday 2 December 2001, at Sinai Grace Hospital. She was 45. The cause of her death was not determined.
