Magic Lady was an all girl group that was formed by Linda Stokes, Jackie Ball and Kimberly Ball. The band was a brainchild of singer/songwriter Linda Stokes, who was the wife of Michael Stokes. Magic Lady signed to Arista and recorded "I just wanna be free", after which they moved to A&M for "Hot and sassy" and "Hold Tight", which became a cult UK soul hit. Later, when the band had been reduced to just Linda Stokes and Jackie Ball, they signed to Motown. In 1988, they released "Betcha can't lose (with my love)", with the background vocals of ex-member Kimberly Ball. Since that release, nothing has been heard of Magic Lady. The track "Hold Tight" featured on numerous UK rare groove compilations.
