Patrice Rushen was born in Los Angeles, on 30 September 1954. The child prodigy swapped classical for jazz when she was a teenager in the late 1960's. She recorded three albums for the Prestige label and took her first steps into dance. During the mid 1970's, Rushen appeared on albums by the likes of Lee Ritenour, Blackbyrds and Minnie Riperton, before she re-estabished her solo career in 1978. She returned to the charts with her second album for Elektra, called 'Pizzazz' and peaked with 'Straight from the heart' in 1982. That album featured her biggest hiot ever: 'Forget me nots'. Much of her subsequent work was in jazz field, although she also toured with Soul II Soul. Her track 'Haven’t you heard' provided a hook for Zhane's 1994 hit 'Groove thang'. Patrice Rushen's official website is at www.patricerushen.com.
