Tawatha Agee was born and raised in Philadelphia. She sang lead vocals on Mtume's million-selling single 'Juicy fruit' and had her own hits with 'Thigh ride' and 'Are your serious'. As with Renee Diggs of Starpoint, fans were clamoring for a solo album from Tawatha, which was finally issued in June 1987. The Epic album was called 'Welcome to my dream' and produced by James Mtume, Mtume member and guitarist Ed Moore and James Batton. Despite the success of Mtume and Tawatha's first album, there were no follow ups. Tawatha went back to doing background vocals on various albums from artists including Luther Vandross.
