U.N.V. was formed in Lansing, Michigan in 1991 and stands for Universal Nubian Voices. The band's members were Shawn Powe, John Powe, Demetrius Peete and John Clay. The quartet went to Detroit to record "Something's goin'". The track received airplay on local stations and U.N.V. got a record deal with Maverick Records. They released their first album in 1993 and another one in 1995.
