Ring Road Nr.1 is the main road around Iceland. Many of the country's sights are located near this road. When travelling this road on the country's south shore, west of the small village of Vík, you will see the dramatic rock formations of Reynisfjara. If you come from the direction of Reykjavík, the capital of Iceland you should take the turn south to the road Reynishverfisvegur Nr.215. After some 6 km you will reach the Basalt formations. You have to drive there via this road as you cannot access it directly from the village of Vík.
Reynisfjara has a black sand beach has, spectacular rock formations and the most spectacular basalt column formation in Iceland.
