Tikrit is a city in the north of Iraq. It is best known as being the hometown of Saddam Hussein. It was believed it was the leader's power center and the one place in Iraq where he was truly popular. In 2015 it was occupied by Islamic State.

Tikrit is on the Tigris, some 160 km northwest of Baghdad. In the old town are several interesting sites.

Because of the current situation in Iraq it is not recommended to travel to Tikrit, or any other destination in Iraq at this moment.
