Archipiélago de Solentiname (Solentiname Archipelago)

The Archipiélago de Solentiname consists of a group of islands in the southern part of Lago de Nicaragua. The archipelago includes a communal society for artists that was established by the poet Ernesto Cardenal. Most works produced by the artists on the islands belong to a distinctive school of colorful primitivist painting.

The islands are excellent for hiking and fishing. They can be reached by boat from San Carlos on the southeastern extreme of Lago de Nicaragua. Accommodation is available on the islands.
