Arusha is surrounded by wheat and Maize estates. The area is home to the Waarusha and Wameru tribes people. Arusha is a very pleasant town to walk around in and there are no hassles whatsoever. The city is the perfect place to base yourself if you want to explore the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Arusha National Park, the Serengeti and Tarangire National Parks, or the area around Mount Kilimanjaro National Park, as well as the lakes in the Tanzanian part of the Rift Valley. Arusha is also the last major town before the Kenyan border, when heading in the direction of Nairobi.

Although Arusha is in the center of things, there is little of interest in the town itself. THere are numerous companies that offer all sorts of safaris and trips to the parks.

There is a wide range of accommodation, bars and restaurants in Arusha. It is a very small place and can easily be explored on foot. It is a fairly save place and you can even walk around at night without any problems. Arusha is 490 km northwest of Dar es Salaam and 90 km from the border with Kenya.
