Assomption Island

Assomption Island used to be a rich source of guano, but the people who came to collect it also cut trees and other vegetation away and by the 1920's there were no plants left to support bird life on the island. It is an excellent place for scuba diving though, as underwater life is rich.

Assomption Island is more then 1000 km (620 miles) from Mahé Island, 27 km (17 miles) south of Aldabra Atoll.
