Aunu'u Island
The small island of Aunu'u is only about a kilometer southeast from Tutuila's eastern tip. You can easily explore the island is a day, but on Sundays, tourists are not welcome. Aunu'u is a wonderful oasis of quiet, especially after spending several days in the chaotic and noisy traffic of Pago Pago.
On Aunu'u is a beautiful expanse of fiery red quicksand, known as Pala Lake. On the far side of the island from the ferry landing is Ma'ama'a Cove, a cauldron of surf, spray and rocks. It is a perfect place to sit, or have a picnic and watch the ocean and the waves.
Aunu'u Island is fifteen minutes by ferry from Tutuila.
