Boquete is a small alpine town, settled in a mountain valley north of David. The town's surroundings are perfect for walking, bird watching and horse riding and because of its altitude, Boquete has a pleasant climate that is a welcome escape from the heat of the lowlands.
In the countryside around Boquete, flowers, coffee and citrus fruits are grown. Every year in January, the popular Feria de las Flores y del Cafe is held in Boquete.
Some 15 km (9 miles) west of town is the 3475 m (11,400 feet) high Volcán Barú, which can be climbed. Not far from the volcano is the 14,300-hectare (35,320-acre) La Amistad National Park, which is also worth a visit. Boquete is 375 km west of Panama City.
