Bourne was first settled in 1627. It is crossed by Cape Cod Canal. In 1935, Bourne Bridge was built across the canal, making the town an entry point to Cape Cod and a resort and commercial center. Not far from town are the Massachusetts Military Reservation and Otis Air Force Base, which have both been important to Bourne's economy.

Accommodation and restaurants are available in town. Bourne is on Cape Cod, in the southeast of Massachusetts. It is 80 km southeast from Boston and 600 km northeast from Washington D.C.
