Cayos Cochinos (Hog Islands)

The Hog Islands consist of a group of small, privately owned islands and cays, 17 km off Honduras' Caribbean coast, not far from La Ceiba. Originally they were inhabited by Maya Indians and conquistador Cortés once tried to farm on the islands.

The Hog Islands are excellent for snorkeling and scuba diving. In the ocean near some of the islands are black coral reefs. At Nueva Armenia, 30 km east of La Ceiba, boats can be hired to take you to the Hog Islands.

On one of the islands is an expensive resort, but you should be able to camp on any of the other cays after you get permission from the owners.
