Comrat
Comrat is the capital of Moldova's autonomous region of Gagauzia. There is little of interest in Comrat. The city has a university and in 1990 Moldavian armed forces clashed there with Gagauz nationalists over the issue of Gagauz independence.
The are only a few hotels in Comrat, so most people opt to visit the city on a day trip from Chisinau. Several buses run between the two cities every day. Comrat is 80 km south of Chisinau.
