Cork is the second-largest city in the Republic of Ireland. The town center is situated on an island between two channels of the Lee River. In the Shandon area, north of the river is Cork's historic part, while to the south of the river you'll find numerous breweries, chapels and churches, including the protestant Saint Finbarr's Cathedral, the Cork Museum, which mostly displays Cork's important role in the nationalist struggle, the Cork Jail, which dates from the 19th century and Cork's City Hall.
During the nights, Cork boasts a lively pub scene and during the day you can visit the Cork Opera House, Crawford Art Gallery and Firkin Crane Center, which all offer traditional and mainstream fare.
Blarney Castle, not far from town, is a popular destination. When you get there, it is a tradition to kiss the Blarney Stone. Day trips to the castle are available in Cork.
There are many hotels and restaurants in Cork, as well as countless pubs. Cork is 220 km southwest of Dublin and buses connect the two cities.
