The Fagatele Bay is a submerged volcanic crater on the south westernmost tip of Tutuia Island. It is surrounded by steep cliffs and boasts almost 200 species of coral. In the late 1970's, some 90% of the coral was destroyed by attacks from a massive crown-of-thorns starfish. Between August and November you can see southern humpback whales in the bay. Large parts of the bay are included in the Fagatele Bay National Marine Sanctuary and can only be visited after obtaining a permit from the Marine and Wildlife Resources Officer in Pago Pago.

Fagatele Bay is excellent for snorkeling and scuba diving. The bay is 12 km (7 miles) southwest of Pago Pago.
