Funafuti is the small and quiet capital of Tuvalu. There are no heavy industries, only several manufacturing facilities and not much traffic, so the air is very clean. Funafuti is Tuvalu's administrative center, so there are several government buildings, as well as a church and an airstrip.
The island's main village is not far north of the center, while the deep water wharf is a bit further north from there.
The large lagoon looks very clean, but it can be quite dirty, as some sewerages end in it. At the southern end of the lagoon are several uninhabited islets, including Funafala Island. Plenty of vessels are available to take you there.
There are several hotels and restaurants in Funafuti.
