Hillerød
Most people come to Hillerød to visit the beautiful castle of Frederiksborg Slot. The castle was built in Dutch Renaissance style on several small islets in Slotso Lake. It is home to an interesting museum, which includes some 70 rooms, where you can see gilded ceilings, hand woven tapestries, paintings and antiques. The Riddershalen (Knights Hall) and the Slotskirken (Coronation Chapel) are especially interesting. In the Coronation Chapel, Danish monarchs received their extravagant crowns between 1671 and 1840.
There are several hotels and restaurants in Hillerød, but most people prefer to stay in Købnhavn (Copenhagen), 30 km (18 miles) to the south.
