Hortobágy National Park

Hortobágy National Park covers some 520 km² of wetlands, marshes and saline grasslands in Hungary's Great Plain, west of Debrecen and offers some of the best bird watching possibilities in Europe. More than 300 bird species have been spotted there over the years.

Some of the bird species you might see there include eagles, egrets, great bustards, herons, spoonbills, storks and warblers. A guide is compulsory and the park can only be accessed on foot, by horse or with a carriage. Hortobágy National Park is 150 km east of Budapest.
