Hot Springs is in central Arkansas, at the center of the Ouachita River's lake system. The area was first settled in 1807, but the Spanish explorer Hernando De Soto already visited it in 1541.

The city nearly surrounds Hot Springs National Park, where numerous hot mineral springs are found that have made Hot Springs a well-known health resort. The properties of the waters were investigated in 1804 under the authorization of President Thomas Jefferson. Bottled mineral water, lumber and metal, as well as electrical items are produced in Hot Springs.

There are many hotels and restaurants in Hot Springs. Most of the accommodation includes thermal baths. The city is situated in the Ouachita Mountains, 75 km southwest from Little Rock and 1520 km southwest from Washington D.C.
