La Libertad

La Libertad is a small seaside fishing-town that is mostly visited by surfers, for its great waves rolled out by the Pacific Ocean. Apart from surfing and sunbathing, there is little to do in La Libertad. The town is the major beach resort for people from San Salvador and especially on weekends La Libertad is packed with city dwellers.

Everywhere in La Libertad is a pungent salty fish smell, as locals dry and prepare fish almost everywhere. There are several quiet beaches along the 75 km (46 miles) long Costa del Bálsamo, stretching west from La Libertad to Acajutla.

There are several hotels and restaurants in La Libertad. The town is 30 km south of San Salvador.
