Laredo and Nuevo Laredo are together known as Los Dos Laredos, or the Two Laredos. Laredo is in the United States, while Nuevo Laredo is in Mexico, on the other bank of the Rio Grande, which is known as Rio Bravo to Mexicans. The two cities are great places to party and there's always some event going on.
Laredo is the only Spanish settlement in Texas. There are numerous antique churches, forts and museums. Laredo is an interesting place, as it is a bridge between U.S. and Mexican cultures; literally, as Laredo and Nuevo Laredo are connected by a bridge over the river that divides them. You can cross International Bridge No 1, with minimal formalities that only take 5 minutes or so. Not far from the bridge, in Nuevo Laredo, you'll find a bustling market. Both Spanish and English are spoken by almost everyone on either side of town.
There are many hotels and restaurants in the Two Laredos. Laredo is 2460 km southwest of Washington D.C., while Nuevo Laredo is 900 km north of Mexico City. From the American side you can get there by Greyhound bus from San Antonio, which is a 2-hours drive to the northeast along the I-35. You can also fly into Laredo International Airport from many cities around the U.S. Nuevo Laredo has good bus connections with many places throughout Mexico.
