Long Bay

Long Bay is a small fishing town in the northeast of Jamaica (although there is also a place known as Long Bay on the island's southern coast). Long Bay has some of Jamaica's most dramatic settings and sits on a bay with the same name. The bay boasts a 1.5 km (1 mile) crescent beach with rose-colored sand and turquoise waters.

Long Bay is very popular with surfers and swimmers, although you should be aware of the bay's dangerous undertow. It is possible to go out on the bay with fishermen, if you offer them a reasonable fee. Long Bay is an excellent place to go if you want to experience rural Jamaican life without any signs of mass tourism.

Accommodation is available in the form of rooms that are rented by many locals. There is also a camping ground in Long Bay. There are numerous food stalls and you'll also find a lovely beachside bar and restaurant in town. Long Bay has bus connections with Port Antonio, the nearest town of any size. Long Bay is 55 km east of Kingston.
