Medemblik

Medemblik (50 km north of Amsterdam) is one of the many small town straddling the IJsselmeer, an artificial lake that used to be a sea until the 1930's, when a dam closed it off from open water. Medemblik has a small center with some nice old houses and there is a museum steam train that take you to the nearby town of Hoorn. There is also an interesting castle in Medemblik

The town is 45 km north of Amsterdam.
