The Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary is the oldest reserve in Eswatini. It is a private park near Lobamba in the Ezulwini Valley. Animals that can be seen in the sanctuary include antelope, crocodile, giraffe, hippo, white rhino and zebra. There are also over 200 bird species, including the country's national bird, the purple-crested lourie.
It is possible to explore the park on foot, on horseback or by mountain bike, but night drives can also be arranged. The best place to watch hippos is from the Hippo Haunt restaurant. Huts are available, but you can also camp in the park. The nearby Nyonyane Peak can be climbed and provides excellent views over the area. White-water rafting can be done on the Usutu River, not far from the reserve. The Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary is served by bus from Mbabane.
